Mount Washington Improvement Association (MWIA) is the official community association of Mt. Washington, Baltimore City. Since 1885, it has represented the neighborhood on issues affecting the quality of life including land-use and planning, crime and safety, zoning, traffic and transportation. The MWIA is an all-volunteer organization that sponsors and funds events and opportunities.​​

 

Members: Residents of Mt. Washington.
Sponsoring Members: Residents, includes donation and recognition on the website.
Associate Members: Non-residents or business entities outside of the neighborhood.

Memberships are based on the calendar year from January through December.

 

New for the 2026 year, you will need to create a member account as part of joining the MWIA. This enables you to complete your membership payment. After that you can log in to your account at any time to view your membership record.​

​Benefits of Membership 

 

Your membership helps to sustain a strong and effective neighborhood association. Members receive the MWIA Value Card, which  provides valuable discounts to local merchants. Also included:​​​​
 

  • Holding bi-monthly community meetings, often featuring speakers of community interest.

  • Providing neighborhood communications through our website and quarterly newsletter, delivered to every household in the community.

  • Engaging with City and State agencies and elected officials on behalf of the community, and representing residents on issues affecting Mt. Washington.

  • Providing guidance and positions on zoning and architectural matters, including legal counsel when necessary.

  • Representing the community in the 5 Neighborhood Presidents Committee through Comprehensive Housing Assistance Inc. (CHAI).

  • Organizing bi-weekly clean-ups to help keep the neighborhood tidy, green, and safe.

  • Coordinating quarterly Dumpster Days.

  • Ensuring Mt. Washington is represented on committees and in decisions regarding the redevelopment of Pimlico Racetrack.

  • Launching a new community grants program, supporting the Mt. Washington School, the Mt. Washington Preservation Trust, the Mt. Washington Farmer’s Market, Clayworks, and the Girl Scouts.

  • Supporting the perennial favorite, the Spirit of Mt. Washington July 4th Parade and festivities.

  • Hosting the annual NovemBEER at the Mt. Washington Arboretum.

  • Providing $100 block party grants to encourage gatherings of neighbors.​

 

All of these successes are achieved with our community's support of MWIA and help make Mount Washington the kind of neighborhood where, year in and year out, our homes maintain and even increase their property values.

MWIA is a 501(c)(4): This status allows us to advocate and lobby on behalf of the neighborhood. Consequently, MWIA dues are not tax deductible. Your financial contribution to the community is important and valued.
